NASA for years promoted „Failure is not an option“ as corporate mantra. Still, failures (some very tragic) happened…
Companies „behind“ NASA likle lockheed, ULA, Boeing mm. are „big tanks“, too big to fail…? Today, companies like Arianespace oder Boeing are probably behind in efficiency, technology and proficiency while SPACEX delivers in several aspects, most of us would never have believed few years ago.
Watch this video to see how failure is a success, sometimes.
SPACEX is a good example on an ongoing and working disruption in its industry.
Not made to disrupt (as a fashion…) but disrupting by simply asking what’s best to progress towards your vision.
I’ve always been somewhat sceptic about Elon Musks attitude and even his ethic compass. However, I have to admit TESLA and SPACEX proove his commitment towards his communicated visions.
I’d make a bet on Spacex to become one of the most proficient „space exploration“-corporations of the next decades.
Why:
- failure is an option.
- Ideology and political reasoning (if makeup removed, often local business interests) and resulting compromise are not always good advisors.
- However, fair interest in common goals/vision does. (what I consider partnership)
- vertical integration helps to harmonize technology and business requirements alike. ideologized outsourcing and penny-counting is counterproductive.
- budget is important but scope is prime
risks:
- will regulation innovation keep up with technology and business to shape ethic frameworks to make sure that innovations remain benefical for societies?
- Will SPACEX develop and foster a culture where many exceptional minds strive together or is Elon Musk another Steve Jobs (aka 21st-entury-patriarchy?).
I think it is time to reconsider the way we do our businesses, how to innovate our projects and change the way teams collaborate.
At ZEBROS, we strive to figure answers and strategies in our customer projects. Something we cannot „deliver“ but achieve together with our partners. And our partners? Our clients, employees and suppliers alike!
